The basic ontological characteristics of the translated text (target text) that form its secondary nature have been determined. The author stresses on the ratio of primary and secondary texts in the context of communicative and functional linguistic paradigms. The models of generation of primary and secondary texts have been analysed and compared based on the idea of the text property to the narrowing and expansion. The role of denotative structure of the text and purpose of the author in the process of choosing the appropriate translation strategies have been discussed. The attention has been focused on the complex mechanism of secondary text resulting from involvement in it the interpreter as linguistic persona. It has been suggested that the successful functioning of the secondary text greatly depends on the perception of the target text recipients, which in its turn places the secondary text into another culture. It has been emphasized on the close collaboration of onomasiological and semasiological creation models aiming at rebuilding the functional specificity of the original text. The structural, functional and semantic aspects of a secondary text in the aspect of translation studies have been identified. ER -
