Abstract

The article deals with the linguomental aspect of modality analyzed in the plane of the cognitive linguistics and anthropology. In this perspective, modality is viewed as a mental synthesis of sensory and epistemic experience, acquired and categorized in various knowledge. The logical and philosophical preconditions for the cognitive approach to modality lie normative and causalist domains. Modal re-enactment as a multicomponent bias for storage and partial re-enactment of multi-modal states serves as a mediator between sensory and mental representations of modality. In the modality system, the speaker’s stance is considered as a prism of the reality interpretation. Structurally, modal framework as an interconnector of objective and subjective data plays a significant role in the modal proposition semantic structuring. Modality is of a considerable essence for the language conceptualization that is particularly evident on the instance of the category of mood.
